Money

Budgets with rollover, transactions, recurring bills, and savings goals — everything to manage your money in one place.

The Money section is your budgeting and savings command center. It's organized into five tabs — Overview, Budgets, Recurring, Insights, and Savings — covering everything from a single day's spend to a full year of income and expenses.

Switching months

  • Use the ‹ › arrows at the top of Overview or Budgets to move to any past or future month — nothing is locked to 'this month.'
  • Jump straight to a specific month with the month-picker next to the arrows, or tap 'This month' to snap back to today.
  • Every number on the page — spend, budget, category breakdown — updates to whichever month you're viewing.

Setting your monthly budget

  • Open Budgets and use the 'Set monthly budget' card, or use Quick Add → Budget from Overview.
  • Daily and Yearly are just different views of the same monthly number (monthly ÷ days in the month, or monthly × 12) — you only ever set one number, the monthly amount.
  • Turn on 'Roll over unspent' to carry whatever you don't spend into next month's available amount automatically. Turn it off and unspent balance stops carrying forward from that point on.
  • Category budgets (Food, Transport, etc.) work the same way — set and edit them from the Categories list on the Budgets tab.
Example: rolling a budget forward
  1. 1Set July's budget to ৳20,000 with rollover on. You spend ৳15,000 → ৳5,000 carries into August.
  2. 2August's budget is also ৳20,000 with rollover on → August's real available balance is ৳25,000.
  3. 3Turn rollover off for August → September starts fresh at its own budget amount, with no carryover.

Logging income and expenses

  • Quick Add on Overview is the fastest way — pick Expense or Income, an amount, a category, and a date (defaults to today, but any past date works).
  • For more detail, use the '+ Add expense' button on the hero card, or the pencil icon on any transaction row to edit it later.
  • Every save, edit, or delete shows a confirmation toast at the bottom of the screen — if something goes wrong, the reason shows there too.

Finding and managing past transactions

  • Click 'View all transactions' (Overview) or 'View all' (Budgets → Recent transactions) to open the full transaction list.
  • Filter by type, category, amount range, or a custom date range — or use the 'Last 12 months' / 'This year' / 'All time' quick presets.
  • Search by note or category name. Income/Expense/Net totals appear once the whole filtered range has finished loading.
  • Select multiple rows with the checkboxes to bulk-recategorize or bulk-delete them at once.
  • Deleted something by mistake? It's not gone — switch to the 'Recently deleted' tab in the same panel and restore it (recoverable for 30 days).
  • Use 'Export CSV' to download whatever's currently filtered as a spreadsheet.

Savings goals

  • Create a goal from the Savings tab with a name and target amount. A target date is optional.
  • With a target date set, the goal shows 'On track' or 'Behind schedule' based on your actual deposit pace versus what's needed to hit the deadline.
  • Without a target date, it estimates months-to-goal from your recent deposit pace instead.
  • Add money anytime with '+ Add money' — quick-amount buttons (৳500 / ৳1,000 / ৳5,000) speed up common deposits.
  • Deleting a single deposit is recoverable the same way transactions are. Deleting an entire goal is permanent (it removes the deposit history too), so that one asks for confirmation first.

Recurring bills and income

  • Open the Recurring tab to set up rent, salary, subscriptions, or anything else that repeats weekly, monthly, or yearly.
  • Pick a category, amount, and schedule (e.g. '5th of every month' or 'every Friday') — it logs the transaction automatically on that day, every time, going forward.
  • Pause a rule instead of deleting it if you're taking a break from a subscription — resume it later and it picks back up.
  • Bills due later this month that haven't posted yet show up as 'upcoming bills' in the budget-left figure on Overview, so a big bill doesn't catch you off guard.
Example: setting up rent and salary
  1. 1Recurring → New rule → Expense, category 'Rent', ৳15,000, Monthly, day 5.
  2. 2Recurring → New rule → Income, category 'Salary', ৳40,000, Monthly, day 1.
  3. 3From the 1st and 5th of every month onward, both post automatically — nothing to remember.
  4. 4Going on unpaid leave next month? Pause the Salary rule instead of deleting it, then resume it when pay restarts.

Insights tab

  • The 50/30/20 card compares your actual needs/wants/savings split against the classic guideline, for the selected month.
  • 'Income vs expense, last 12 months' is a plain table — one row per month with a running total — for when you want the numbers, not a chart.
  • The savings-rate chart tracks (income − expense) ÷ income, month by month, so you see the trend instead of one snapshot.

Budget vs actual

  • On Budgets, 'Budget vs actual, month by month' shows your overall budget against actual spend for the last 12 months — useful for spotting the month that blew past its cap.
  • 'Budget vs actual, by category' breaks down the currently-selected month by category instead, showing which one is actually driving an overspend.

Your current balance

  • The 'Current balance' chip on Overview isn't limited to one month — it's your starting balance plus every income transaction minus every expense, all-time.
  • If you haven't set a starting balance yet, Overview prompts you for one. It's optional, but without it the balance chip is really just 'net since you started using rituall' rather than what's actually in your pocket.
Example: a full week in Money
  1. 1Monday: Quick Add an expense — 'Lunch, ৳150, Food'.
  2. 2Wednesday: the rent recurring rule fires automatically — ৳15,000 logged to Rent, no action needed.
  3. 3Friday: paycheck arrives — Quick Add an income of ৳40,000 to Salary.
  4. 4Saturday: add ৳2,000 to the 'Emergency Fund' savings goal — still on track for its November deadline.
  5. 5Sunday: check Insights — Food stayed under budget this week, on pace for a 22% savings rate this month.

Tips

  • Log expenses the same day — it takes seconds, and the toast confirms it saved.
  • Set a recurring rule for anything that repeats so you stop manually re-entering rent and salary every month.
  • Turn rollover on for budgets you don't fully spend most months — it rewards consistent underspending instead of losing the difference.
  • Give a savings goal a target date when you actually have a deadline — 'on track / behind schedule' is far more useful than a vague pace estimate.
